Good News for Farmers: Bhupendra Patel Government’s Big Decision for Gujarat Farmers: Plan to get geomembrane fitted in Talawadi farm made by farmers at their own expense
Good news for farmers: By manufacturing and installing geomembranes in water-bearing areas, rainfall during the monsoon season can be collected and used for crop maintenance, allowing water to be used for sun irrigation.
Good news for farmers
The scheme aims to benefit farmers in ten water-scarce districts of the state by covering trenches dug for farm ponds with geomembranes. The project is fully funded by the government and covers regions like Mehsana, Dang, Narmada, Rajkot, Botad, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Kutch, Banaskantha and Patan.
Size of farm pond to avail the benefit of the scheme
The government scheme requires a specific top size and depth for farm beds, with a slope ratio of 1.5:1. The maximum dimensions allowed are 40×40 meters and 6 meters deep. To avail the scheme, the state government will cover the cost of fitting geomembrane on a maximum area of 2,460 square meters.
If farmers decide to excavate more, resulting in larger farm tanks, they will be responsible for any additional costs due to the use of geomembranes beyond the prescribed limits.
